Chapter 2:
The Desolate Lands of Taraaku.

As Hibiki and Dita moved farther and farther away from the massive Taraaku city, which was Hibiki's home, the land they were on was starting to turn into the color brown, a color of dust and soil.
As they moved on in their transport the capital of Taraaku slowly became somewhat smaller as it bended with the horizon. Still they moved on forward to the desolate canyons of unfertile soil and dust to the small cottage, which was their destination.
Dita looked on at the landscape seeing nothing but dust and soil.
Impatient, she asked her companion:

"Are we there yet?"

Hibiki did not even turn to look at her as he replied: "Soon."

Dita could not understand what Hibiki was thinking. She was confused at him, when she presented to him the idea to visit his grandfather he was ecstatic. How come he was in a very somber mood right now?
Gathering her resolve she asked him in a highly worried voice,

"Uchuujin-san, is something bothering you?"

Hibiki finally turned to her and looked straight at her.

Dita was suddenly very uncomfortable, as she was not used to being stared at like some piece of meat or food - That is, until she saw something at the corner of her eyes,

"UCHUUJIN-SAN WATCH OU...."

As the two crashed onto the hard soil, Hibiki muttered indecent words to himself. Dita looked at Hibiki instantly, assumed that it was her fault like last time.

"GOMENASAI UCHUUJIN-SA...."

She never got to finish what she was saying as Hibiki held up his hand in a stop gesture to silence her.
She wondered what was happening. Hibiki would usually look at her, snarl, call her baka, and tell her to shut up and the like.
But today was different - really different. After just quieting Dita down, Hibiki casually took the toolbox and started repairing the hover car.

Dita not knowing what to do bowed her head and apologized again, "I'm sorry uchuujin-san it was all my fault" but again Hibiki cut her off,

"Don't worry about it. It was my fault in the first place, not looking at the destination anyway." He said this, as he went back wrenching bolts here and there.

They spent the last hours of light repairing the hovercraft and were well on their way as dusk descended upon them.

As the little cottage came into view with the horizon, Dita could not help but think what would happen next.
As the small farm-like cottage came closer, she could feel her chest tighten. What would he say? Do? Would Hibiki's grandfather accept her? She could remember the battle with the red pexis. She put all her faith in Hibiki and wholeheartedly helped him along with Jura and Meia. The three of them with all of the support from Taraaku, Mejeiruu, Melanos, Rabat's fleet and the space pirates had conquered the selfishness the red pexis symbolized and had won with the spirit of friendship by their side.

Dita banished her thoughts away and said to herself:

"I will always have faith in Hibiki."

And she closed her eyes to compose herself when two words reached her ears:

"We're here"

Dita stepped out to see a white bearded man with a pipe seating on a rocking chair. Noticing the two, he stood up and walked up to them.

Hibiki looked up to the older man. "I'm back, Grandpa."

The old man smiled and gently grasped Hibiki's shoulder.

"Yes welcome back."

But Hibiki was not finished; He smiled and told Jin, his grandfather:

"....And I brought a friend." He gestured to Dita. Jin, upon seeing her, went to her.

A broad smile appeared as he saw her and hugged her tightly. Dita could not help but hug tightly back as she was felt the warmth of acceptance in their embrace.

As the darkness loomed over the sky a gentle warmth pervaded on the surface, the warmth of friendship and acceptance.

Back?
